Her expressive approach to painting and perception....enriches all who see it
Robert Upstone, Former Head of British Art, Tate Britain
Felice Hodges is an abstract artist, originally from New York and now based in rural Dorset . Her paintings and sculptures are inspired by nature and her immediate landscape - from the chalk streams, sea and Jurassic coastline to the flint stone fields and hills where she walks. In her work the scenery is often interrupted by the presence of an object - a vase or jug - which though unexpected becomes an integral part of the landscape within which it appears. Her bright colours are built up in layers of paint, sometimes scratched into or combined with collage. The sculptures are similarly textured, their craggy surfaces referring to ancient and buried memories of the past.
